Planted March 2022

From roots with eyes.

Journal
  • 19 Mar 2022: Olivia's plant. Packaging includes 2 roots each with 2-3 eyes. Olivia and mommy planted them. The eyes are already long. one of them over 10 cm. They are pale yellow. For awhile, they will mostly be kept indoor since outside temperature is still mostly 0-10 °C and can go down below zero at night. In warmer sunnt days, they can be moved outide during the daytime.
  • 22 Mar: As mush as possible trying to get sunlight hits the plant indoor. The bud startes to turn green.
  • 25 Mar: Watered thoroughly in preparation of 10 days holiday.
  • 3 Apr: Back from holiday, plants look very good and thriving. 10 cm or so with healthy foliage.
  • 5 Apr: Warm day, temperature above 10 °C. Put outside during warm hours. Will put back inside in the evening.
  • 6 May: Dug up and roots are washed from possible fungus gnats larvae investation. 1 stem rot. Hopefully the rest survived.
  • 6 May: Container rearranged. Peony put on the center, 6 of the lily of the valley left are in the left and right at the middle, geranium seedlings (about5 cm tall)are planted in both front and back rows.
Care
  • Fertilize once or twice a year. With rose/bloom/bulb fertilizer once. In ring (not too close). Crown and toung growth are susceptible to burn. When? First recommendation, when it is 30 cm tall or leaves unfurl or buds forming. Other recommendation, when new growth poking through the soil. Also in the fall, after cutting back the plant.
  • Water: consistent watering. Drought tolerant for a short period of time, but best for growth and healthy root is consistent watering. 1 inch per week. Touch the soil for hot summer. In spring and fall, check if soil dry in secnod knuckle of finger dipped. Wilting, dropping buds, discolored, dried foliage are sign needing watering. Deep water every 10-14 days for mature plant, twice as much for young plants.
