Dianthus 'Arctic Fire'
15-29 cm flowering evergreen perennials Native to Asia and Europe. Excellent groundcover.
Journal
- 30 Dec 2021: Seeds (McKenzie) planted in new soil (MiracleGro potting mix), with rocks at the bottom of the pot. Covered in paper towel to avoid fungus gnat investation.
- 11 January 2022: Seedling started coming. They are up to 1 cm now.
- 22 Jan: Soil surface is covered with terracota sands. Probably too premature because some seedlings are very soft, short and new, and probaby some seedlings still on the way up. However fungus gnats issue is pressing and coverage with plastic (bowl cover) is less than ideal since it's trapping moisture too much (mold risk). Seeds are expectied to sprout 7-10 days though, and now is over 3 weeks. So hopefully any that will grow is already out. The number of seedlings seems to be enough coverage wise anyway, even though not evenly distributed.
- 23 Jan: 1 cm
- 13 Feb: thriving, up to 3 cm.
- 14 Mar: pinched
- 25 Mar: Watered thoroughly in preparation of 10 days holiday.
- 3 Apr: Back from holiday, seedlings look slightly wilting. Watered.
